HIV no longer receives the attention of the media. I agree, malaria represents a health risk, much harder to sell in Africa, but not magazines such as HIV.
In the U.S., we spend more money for HIV research, which we do in research against cancer. But cancer kills more people than AIDS.
It may be partly because HIV is an infectious disease that is a problem in the United States. Given that malaria is not contagious, and as you say, but HIV treatment is not easy to treat. In addition, HIV and malaria is relatively new it is not. Malaria is not a problem in the U.S. So, not media reports.
